Ziziphus jujuba (Chinese date)

An unusual, spiny, deciduous tree which tends to adopt a columnar habit. In hot, dry summers, the small, glossy, bright green leaves might be accompanied by white flowers which sometimes develop into sweet, plum-like fruits. Requires a sheltered, sunny position and light, well-drained soil. Altogether a delightful small tree which deserves more attention.
