Ruscus aculeatus (Butcher's broom)

An amazing tough little evergreen forming a stiff, erect clump of shoots. It will tolerate full sun or dense shade and will do well on virtually any soil type, even those of heavy clay or shallow chalk. What appear to be dark green leaves are actually flattened stems (phylloclades) performing the function of leaves.
