Parrotia persica

This hardy deciduous genus is usually found developed as a large shrub or small tree. It is a lovely choice for sun or part-shade and soil which is neutral to acidic and not compacted. The smooth, grey, bark flakes on more mature specimens. The leaves are rich-green with a hint of mauve at the margins and they provide a fine array of autumnal colours - yellow through to orange and purple - before falling.
