This attractive, aromatic, hardy evergreen has small, dark-green foliage. The creamy-white flowers appear in late summer and are often followed by small, purple-black fruits which can be used as flavouring. It is often used as low hedging. Thrives in any well-drained soil but requires a sheltered position in full sun. The variant f.tarentina is a dwarf form with smaller, narrow leaves and its flowers are tinged pink and the berries are white.
