This is a larger growing species and flowers in August-September. The large, roughly conical panicles of creamy-white flower heads bear both small fertile florets and larger sterile florets. The flowers fade to a pinkist pale green as they mature and are useful as decorations if dried. The mid-green leaves often turn red before falling in the autumn. 'Grandiflora' is the most popular variety but others with larger flowers include 'Pink Diamond', 'Tardiva' and 'Unique'
