Cotinus coggygria "Royal Purple" (Smoke tree)

This is a easy-going genus of fully hardy deciduous trees and shrubs which will grow well in full sun in any well-drained soil, even dry, chalky types. 
Perhaps the most familiar form with its deep purple-coloured leaves which redden before falling in the autumn. The cloud-like arrays of tiny purple flowers develop in early summer and by autumn turn a brownish-grey.
